Do you really know the ingredients in your foods?

Do you really know what’s in the food you eat? It’s easy to assume that the ingredients in one banana bread recipe are similar to those in another, or that different mixes contain the same core ingredients. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Ingredient quality and sourcing can vary dramatically, even in products that seem identical. Let's consider our banana bread as an example.

At our core, we aim to use ingredients that are as natural as possible, staying close to the source. For instance, we offer sugar-free options, but we don’t compromise by using sugar alcohols or questionable substitutes. Instead, we rely on a Monkfruit/Allulose blend, which is one of the cleanest alternatives available today. Our commitment extends beyond just using the best ingredients now—we constantly search for even better, healthier alternatives as they become available.

When you take a close look at the ingredients in our banana bread, you’ll notice a few things. We avoid preservatives, fillers, gums, mold-derived additives, GMOs, artificial dyes, and refined sugars. Additionally, our banana bread is top 6 allergen-friendly, and we offer vegan options as well. When it comes to our mixes, we go even further—they are free from the top 14 allergens and are both gluten and grain free.

Why is this important? Why should you care about the ingredients in your desserts and baking mixes? The truth is, the ingredients you consume can significantly affect your health, and we believe in full transparency about what goes into our products. Let's take a deeper look at some of these ingredients, starting with sugar.

Most brands use refined sugars like cane sugar or brown sugar, which are highly processed and stripped of their natural minerals. Refining sugar involves synthetic chemicals that remove impurities, meaning that what’s left is far from the original, nutrient-rich cane juice. That’s why we’ve moved away from using refined sugar, and we continue to seek better alternatives that allow you to enjoy sweet treats without the health risks associated with processed sugars.

Now, let’s talk about gums. Gums are often used to thicken or stabilize processed foods, and we used to include them too. However, many studies have shown that gums, particularly carrageenan, can cause gastrointestinal inflammation and discomfort, especially for people who already suffer from digestive issues. Gums are notoriously hard to digest, leading to bloating, cramping, diarrhea, and other unpleasant symptoms. We made the decision to remove them from our products because we want you to enjoy your desserts without worrying about digestive upset.

We take the same care when it comes to sugar alcohols. These sweeteners can have effects similar to those of gums, causing gastrointestinal distress, particularly for people with food intolerances or sensitivities. Worse yet, research suggests that consuming sugar alcohols can increase your risk of heart attacks or strokes. Why take that risk when you can enjoy delicious treats without any of these concerns?

Genetically-modified ingredients (GMOs) are another area where we draw a hard line. Not only are GMOs banned in many parts of the world, but they’ve also been linked to potential health risks and allergies. The instability of genetically-modified foods can create unforeseen consequences, so we choose not to include them in any of our products.

Finally, we avoid mold-derived ingredients. Common additives like citric acid, which is often used as a flavor enhancer or preservative, are frequently derived from mold. We don’t use citric acid, and we carefully vet all our ingredients to ensure that none of them are mold-derived.

So, do you know what’s in the food you eat? We take great care to make sure you do. When you choose our banana breads or baking mixes, you can rest assured that you’re getting clean, natural ingredients with none of the harmful additives you might find elsewhere.
